2014 Asian Men’s Volleyball
Sixteen teams from Asia are competing in the PLDT Home Fibr 2014 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship (AMCC) which kicked off on Tuesday at SM MoA Arena and Cuneta Astrodome.
At the welcome ceremonies last Monday at the posh Alphaland City Club in Makati, the athletes were treated to a resort-themed cocktails. Entertainment was provided by Kapuso singer Jonalyn Viray and a band from Boracay who delighted the athletes and guests with their island music (reggae).
“We’re very excited with the holding of the Asian championships here,” said Gary Dujali, vice president and head of PLDT Home Broadband. “Volleyball is an incredibly popular sport in the country, and to be able to bring in all these top-caliber athletes to watch up close is going to be a treat for the fans. We’re live streaming the games with TVolution so that subscribers can watch the action in the comfort of their homes.”
The short program introduced the teams from different countries to the guests and members of the media.
Philippine celebrity player Richard Gomez was unable to attend the kick-off event as he was celebrating his birthday with his family and friends.
Dujali said that all games with the Philippine team, also known as the PLDT HOME TVolution Philippine Team, will be streamed live on TVolution and televised live on TV5, the official broadcast partner of the AMCC.
The competition runs till April 16. The team that wins the championship will represent Asia in the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship in Brazin in May.

Manny Pacquiao VS Bradley update report
Manny Pacquiao won a unanimous decision in his rematch with Timothy Bradley, avenging his 2012 loss and claiming the WBO welterweight title.
Pacquiao pursued and peppered the previously unbeaten Bradley around the MGM Grand Garden ring with an aggressive performance recalling the Pacman in his prime.
Bradley fought back with counterpunching and elusiveness, but Pacquiao kept up his attack while Bradley struggled in the closing rounds.
Pacquiao left little doubt about the result of the rematch in the same arena where they met nearly two years ago.
Bradley's split-decision victory astonished most ringside observers, who felt Pacquiao had earned a clear decision.

CONGRATULATIONS MANNY .....
USA Today
Manny Pacquiao regained the WBO Welterweight Championship on Saturday night in Las Vegas, capturing a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Timothy Bradley Jr. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
Pacquiao (56-5-2 38 KO) avenged a hotly disputed loss to Bradley in their first fight, nearly two years ago, taking over in the second half to capture a comfortable points victory.
Scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 118-110 for Pacquiao.
Bleacher Report scored the contest 116-112 for Pacquiao.
Bradley (31-1, 12 KO) promised that he would knock out the Filipino icon, and he came out swinging for the fences. He buzzed Pacquiao a couple of times early in the fight, but seemed to punch himself out a bit, fading badly over the second half of the fight.
That was when Pacquiao took over, showing flashes of the killer instinct his foe said he no longer had, closing the show, regaining his belt and leaving zero doubt

Power Pinoys open Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship with win over Mongolia Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship photo |
The Philippines’ PLDT Home TVolution squad brandished its brilliance as it posted a straight-sets victory over Mongolia, 25-13, 25-23, 25-16, to kick off its campaign in the Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship presented by PLDT Home Fibr on Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Save for some minor bumps in the second set, the Power Pinoys were hardly threatened in coasting to their first win in this tournament organized by Sports Core in partnership with the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF).
Australian import Cedric Legrand starred for the home squad, finishing with 17 of his 18 points on kills, leaving the Mongolians groping for form.
Alnakran Abdilla, a standout from La Salle in Dasmarinas, provided support as he nailed 11 of his 12 points on hits in their debut in this tourney backed by Mikasa, Healthway Medical, Maynilad, Gerflor Spurway, Senoh Equipment, STI, PSC, Makati mayor Junjun Binay, Pasay City mayor Antonino Calixto and MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino.
“Cedric is very impressive. He keeps his promise of playing hard and helping Philippine volleyball by winning this tournament,” said Philippines’ coach Francis Vicente, referring to his prized recruit who was part of the Australian indoor team in 2008 and was hailed as the Most Valuable Player in the Victorian Premier League.
With Legrand running the show, the home team dominated the bigger, heftier Mongolians in the first set before racing to a 22-14 lead in the second set.
Then, the Mongolians caught fire.
Taking advantage of the Filipinos’ weak backline defense, Mongolia made the game interesting as it inched closer to within three, 21-24, before the Power Pinoys closed out the set with a powerful smash from Kheeno Franco and a service error from their foes.
It was all Philippines from there as the PLDT Home TVolution side used its blinding speed to its advantage in the third set.
“Speed was the main factor that carried us in this game,” Vicente added. “We’re not that tall, but we have the speed that’s why it was hard for our opponents to beat us. We used our speed to our advantage and it rewarded us with this victory.”
The Power Pinoys will take a breather today, but will be back to face Iraq tomorrow for a win that would formalize their entry to the quarterfinals.
All games by the Philippine Team, also known as the Power Pinoys or the PLDT Home TVolution team, will be televised live on TV5, the official broadcast partner of the AMCC. The tournament also has Magic 89.9, Wave 89.1, Jam 88.3, Play 99.5 and KLite 103.5 as radio partners.

Volleyball Club Championship Phil vs Mongolia
For the first time in more than a decade, the Philippines makes its return to the Asian volleyball when the Home Tvolution competes in the Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship presented by PLDT Home Fibr simultaneously starting on Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena and Cuneta Astrodome.
Bannered by actor-sportsman Richard Gomez, the Power Pinoys will face a club representative from Mongolia at 2 p.m. following the 12 noon opening ceremonies prepared by the Organizing Committee headed by former Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Philip Ella Juico in partnership with Sports Core and the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF).
Asian powerhouse squads, Duc Long Gia Lai of Vietnam and Zahraa Al Minaa of Lebanon, will close the day’s action starting at 4 p.m. at the newly-built Pasay venue.
At the nearby Cuneta Astrodome, Turkmekistan battles Al Rayyan of Qatar at 2 p.m., Kondensat-Zhaikmunay of Kazakhstan tangles with Green Dragon of Hong Kong at 4 p.m. and Amoa NCD of Papua New Guinea clashes with Chinese Taipei clash at 6 p.m.
Fresh from a short training stint in Korea, the Power Pinoys are tipped as a surprise package with Australian standouts Cedric Legrand and William Robert Lewis reinforcing the team, whose core is composed of JP Torres, Ron Jay Galang, Jeffrey Malabanan, Alnakran Abdilla, Gomez and team captain Ian Fernandez .
But national coach Francis Vicente isn’t taking other teams lightly.
“I’m fully aware that if we lose, we will have a slim chance in making it to the Top 8,” said Vicente during the pre-tournament press conference graced by Philippine Super Liga president Ramon Suzara, PVF president Carl Chan and secretary-general Ottie Camangian in Makati.
“We will try our best to win our games. It’s all about hard work.”
It wouldn’t be a cakewalk for the Philippines as the taller Mongolians are expected to give the host team a run for its money in this tournament backed by Mikasa, Healthway Medical, Maynilad, Gerflor Spurway, Senoh Equip.m.ent, STI, PSC, Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto and MMDA Chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino.
“This match is very hard,” said Mongolia coach Arunbayar Munkbayar through an interpreter. “Our advantage is our height. Let’s see what will happen. We’ll give them a good fight.”
After Mongolia, the Philippines will take on South Gas Sports Club of Iraq at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Group A. Kuwait was also supposed to be bracketed with Mongolia, Iraq and the host country but withdrew from participation last week after it failed to get the nod of its federation.
